When most people think of argyle, their grandfather's socks may come to mind. This winter season brings the idea of argyle back in the UGG Classic Argyle boots. These boots are a fashion trend all their own, but before you consider buying a pair you should understand what argyle is all about. Argyle is a pattern that is created with diamonds in a diagonal checkerboard design. In fact, the pattern can appear almost 3-D. Argyle is thought to have come from the tartan of Clan Campbell in Argyll, Scotland. In 1949, the president of Brooks Brothers came back from an event in Scotland after having seen one of the golfers wearing the pattern. He loved it, and brought the idea back to America to start the newest fashion trend of argyle socks. The rest is history! Although we have all seen the socks and even some sweaters made out of the argyle pattern over the years, the newest trend is accessories. You will see purses, scarves and even boots made from the argyle design this season. The UGG Classic Argyle Knit boots mix have a classic prep school pattern and are made using a sweater knit. Made of a merino wool blend, this boot features a soft foam insole covered with actual sheepskin. These UGG boots come in a variety of colors including: black, charcoal, cream, fig and stout. Of course, anyone interested in fashion knows that these colors are quite popular this winter fashion season. You can wear these boots with jeans for a casual look or with a kicky skirt and leggings for a more dressed up ensemble. Boots will always be in fashion, but this winter season we will see a surge of new colors, fabrics and styles. There are literally boots for every occasion, outfit and budget! UGG has been absolutely a name known by people of any age and of any nation nowadays. What contributes to its great success the most must be that excellent material.
Originating on the surf beach of Australia, it had been found incomparable comfortable by the Aussie nearly hundreds of years ago. Sheep shearers who could get the best part of sheepskin used it to wrap on their feet all year around because of a shortage of sunshine.
You may hear people related UGG with ugly boots, don't you? It is right completely. An interesting story tells us "ugly" comes out because of the first line of shoes from a company manufacturing sheepskin boots are 100% ugly. Who knows whether this is true? However, people tend to enjoy comfort on these sheepskin boots more than paying attention to whether they are not beautiful later. Asking any one who owns a pair of sheepskin boot why to choose them, you will get the same answer of just a sweet smile or a tacit wink?
The worldwide reputation on UGG boots is not reflected on common people such as kids, college students, working people and so on. Well-known celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Solange Knowles, Vanessa Williams were photographed wearing these as well. Can this be a powerful retort on their "ugly:appearances? Do you think these beautiful women are willing to harm their charming images? They will not undoubtedly!
Australian twin-faced merino sheepskin presents UGG boots with elegant and sleek images functionally. While being folded down, their exposed sheepskin seems like showing its incomparable comfort and luck loved by numerous people from different nations. Some of us tend to think they are a little luxurious to wear. However, is there any else reason more attractive than being dynamic and enjoying cold winter? Sheepskin boots enable us to be regaled even in the coldest days.As we enjoy comfort and warmth on UGG boots, few people paid attention to the process of making sheepskin boots. Am I right? To be honest, it is difficult and troublesome. Three steps such as Tanning, Finishing and Producing are included. The hardest one should be Tanning which ask a serious standard on temperature and PH quantity. Believe it or not, sheepskin on UGG boots is a great art of work.
As the more evolved of the two sexes, women's liberation isn't summed up solely in terms of brute strength and power structure. Historically, a women's political movement is also expressed artistically by redefining, refiguring or even dismantling the current fashion norms. Power shifts are reflected in wardrobes, and miniskirts and UGG boots are iconic of this female phenomena. When a woman wears UGG boots with a miniskirt (shown below in Classic Tall) she is merging the women's liberation movements of today with those of yesteryear.
During the 1920s hemlines rose above the ankle as suffragettes fought for the vote. In the 1960s, hemlines became crotchlines as women donned mini-skirts and fought for social and reproductive rights. The popularity of the miniskirt was especially shocking in a culture where wearing patent leather shoes meant you were promiscuous, because the reflection of your genitals supposedly glimmered atop your toes.
As women gained command of their sexual identity, they were confronted by new voices that claimed a woman's only power is her sexuality. Women raised their fists against being pigeon holed as vixens in both political and fashion circles. As sexual harassment laws cracked down in the workplace, women ditched their high heels and form-fitting power suits for velour sweatpants and UGG boots, both of which have about as much sexual appeal as Kevin Costner.
When UGG Australia began advertising to female consumers, they launched an oversexualized campaign to downplay the non-sexual nature of UGG boots. Because UGG boots are about as scandalous as a winter parka, UGG photographed half-naked models wearing their UGG boots. (See Sundance II from UGG ad campaign below, right). In later years, as UGG Australia became accepted as fashionable and feminine, the ads became less raunchy and more down-to-Earth.
In coupling UGG Boots with miniskirts, women are merging the liberation movement of the 1960s with the de-sexualizing liberation movement of the new millennium. This hybrid look of sexy miniskirts with dumpy UGG boots presents a woman who is confident in both her sexuality and her non-sexuality.
Balance is not only the key to life but also the key to fashion . A tight, low-cut blouse perfectly blends with a loose pair of slacks creating a sophisticated look. Meanwhile, the same risqué blouse clashes with a pair of hot pants, creating (if you're not careful) a look of unbridled crass. Likewise, a miniskirt with tall, strappy heels can make a woman look like she's playing dress up, while a flirtatious miniskirt coupled with homely UGG boots shows a levelheaded woman who knows how to balance flair with comfort .
The introduction and widespread acceptance of both miniskirts and UGG boots to popular culture created similar social stirs. Both miniskirts and UGG boots were either adored or deplored by their contemporaries.
Miniskirt lovers lauded the playful advancement in fashion. Best-selling author Tom Robbins went so far as to say that owning a miniskirt shows you can stitch a zeitgeist into a few square inches of cloth. The naysayers wagged their fingers and claimed that the scandalous attire was physical proof of the decline of society's moral character.
UGG lovers contend that wearing a decidedly ugly but comfortable boot ( and having the audacity to call it fashionable!) liberates women from years of limping in painful stilettos and other so-called feminine shoes. Of course, change always faces strong adversity, and many fashion mavens refuse to call UGGs (or anything that looks like a baked-potato) fashionable or feminine. But UGG fans, in search of equality and comfort, have convinced a great majority of the public that UGGs such as the Knightsbridge, are chic and feminine, if not by traditional standards, then by the New Woman's standards.
Because of the pervasive and controversial nature of both UGG boots and miniskirts, it is important to realize the social relevancy that lies behind the fashion. An UGG is not an UGG,but it is an expression of a women's fight for equality. Wearing UGG boots expresses a woman's desire to able to dress as comfortably as a man, without being chided for looking unattractive, which makes UGG boots a metaphor of women's struggle for social equality.
In the end, fashion is a language that is constantly undergoing redefinition . In the 60s as the miniskirt took the world by storm, even Queen Elizabeth eventually lifted her hemline, which relays hope that even the staunchest anti-UGG fuddy-duddies will one day see the light and give UGG boots a chance.
I love shoes. For years my dad blamed this peculiar love on Sex and the City and our materialistic culture. This may very well be true...but I just don't care. All I know is when Vogue lands on my doorstep and I look at the beautiful footwear creations inside, a particular part of me finds great peace. Call me shallow if you will, I prefer to think of it as one more thing that makes me happy.
Shoes are important. To everyone. You may be searching for that cheap but sturdy pair to last you for every outfit for the next decade. You may be looking for a glamorous splurge to treat your feet to a night out of fabulousness and toe cramping. Or, you may have just found that love-at-first-sight pair; you know, the ones you've been dreaming of your whole life, that fit like a dream and cost more than your car.
Basically, you need shoes. For some people, you just need the basics: work and play. But there are some of us who need shoes for work, play, casual, fancy, high, low, moderate, eccentric, and in every color under the sun. (You know who you are.) Regardless of your level of shoe obsession, we can all agree that you need shoes to wear every day.
As a shoe lover, I accept it as my duty to learn about shoes. Although this may be a lifelong quest, I am steadily adding to my repertoire of fashion awareness. The first rule seems to be that for every item you find beautiful, someone else will think you are crazy. Most “It” items have been equally loved and ridiculed: cargo pants, wedge heels, and really, animal print anything.
Fashion is about beauty and personal aesthetic, creating a look that speaks to how you want to present yourself to the world, for whatever occasion. So, let's grab the proverbial sheep by the tail and take a gander at the controversial UGG.
UGG boots and slippers are wonderful. I will not deny that the classic style is pretty darn plain looking, and that it looks a little illogical to pair fleece boots with a skirt. Of course, then I tried it and it was so comfortable that I had to stop judging. (All right, if you've got a mini skirt the size of a postcard, I'll still judge a little.) I will say it is nice to have boots that keep your toes warm when you're sick of wearing long pants and really want a cute skirt.
I've read many articles both praising and bashing UGG. One of the arguments I've come across is that most of the UGG styles lack sufficient arch support. This is true. On the other hand, so do most shoes. Look at the effortlessly simple and popular Converse; there's not a stitch of arch support in those babies. In my opinion, the benefits of the UGG boot outweighs this paltry criticism. They were never advertised as a hiking boot, but as comfort and luxury in shoe form. It's just a bonus that many of the styles have removable foot beds if you should need an arch support insert. I wanted a pair of boots that I could wear with whatever I wanted, and I wanted a slightly different style so I went for the UGG Swell Tall. I needed the extra arch support so I ditched my coffee habit for a week and bought a pair of arch support inserts. Easy as pie, and the shallow part of me is proud owner of a pair of ever so famous UGG Australia boots. I love them, and everyone I work with can attest that I wore those boots almost every day since purchasing them.
Now, I know that everyone is selling something, so of course I'll say that UGG Australia makes a superior boot. Well, I'm saying it because it's pretty much true. They keep you warm when you need it, and help your body temperature regulate if you need to cool off a little. With high quality grade-A fleece, you know those sheep went to Harvard. For those of us watching our pocket books these days, it's a comfort to know that UGG Australia footwear will last for ages, definitely longer than any Kmart knock off. There is a wide array of styles to choose from, and isn't variety the spice of life? So what do UGG naysayers really have to say: the UGG Classic is too simple? Oh, how horrible.
